As we anticipated several months ago, this publication stands among the most ambitious editorial projects undertaken by the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas (MoCAA). Sponsored by The Rodriguez Collection, it marks the inaugural volume in a series dedicated to documenting and reflecting upon the practices of artists whose ongoing relationship with the museum has been both meaningful and enduring.
Ivonne Ferrer. Recent Works, 2014–2024 offers a rigorous and sensitive examination of the recent oeuvre of one of the most compelling Cuban artists of her generation. Organized chronologically, the book brings together a carefully curated selection of critical essays that address the foundational series shaping Ferrer’s artistic journey over the past decade. From the collages in Sometimes It’s Forever and Portraits of Women, where she introduces textile elements and sculptures in ceramic and bronze, to her most recent explorations in Equilibrium and Anthropometry, in which she masterfully fuses techniques, materials, and mediums, this publication captures a rich and coherent evolution of form and concept.
Spanning 340 pages, the volume presents an expansive collection of original works, accompanied by an editorial design that was conceived with utmost precision to underscore the clarity and depth of Ferrer’s artistic vision. Her most significant pieces are documented from multiple angles, allowing for a full appreciation of their spatial presence and formal complexity. This visual journey—dynamic, varied, and deeply engaging—is enriched by theoretical reflections that, rather than interrupting the experience, heighten it, subtly underscoring the sustained poetic drive that animates her practice and is, for the first time, brought together in a single volume.
The book also includes Ferrer’s most recent work, much of it featured in exhibitions such as Crossing the Divide, MoCAA to Marco, and during the museum’s institutional participation in DIVERSEartPB at the Palm Beach art fair, within the section devoted to international museums.
The book’s visual identity and graphic design were masterfully developed by r10estudio, with a refined sensibility attuned to the project’s conceptual framework. Financing, production, marketing, and distribution have been managed by The Rodriguez Collection, whose steadfast support of Latin American contemporary art has been instrumental to the realization of this volume.
