Luis Antonio Espinosa Fruto (b. Manzanillo, Cuba in 1974) graduated from the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) in 1997. He is a notable cartoonist, painter and draughtsman and is considered to be one of the most interesting contemporary Cuban artists of today. Currently working in Havana, his works have been exhibited in galleries, museums and art institutions around the world. His work is characterized by the combination of sea seascapes, photography and installation, using humor and irony to comment on central issues in art, politics and society. Drawing is a very important part of his creative process, and Espinosa sees it as a way to record and review his ideas. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honorable mentions including, the Artist of the Year Award, Circle Art Foundation, Lyon, France (2018); First Prize, VI Certamen de Pintura, Fundación Nicomedes García Gómez, Segovia, Spain; Honorable Mention at the Salón de la Ciudad XI Edición, Havana, Cuba (1996); A Medal from the 8th International Art Exhibition for Children and Young People, Hyvinkaa, Finland (1990).
