Florencio Gelabert, (b in Havana, Cuba, 1961) He is a graduate of the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts and the Higher Institute of Arts (ISA) in Havana, Cuba, and holds a MFA from the University of Miami, Florida, where he lives and works. He is part of a generation of sculptors, whose work and aesthetic discourse uses a wide range of methodologies to express their concerns. Throughout his artistic career, he has used sculptures, installations and site-specific to address issues such as destruction, fragility and human displacement. Gelabert confronts the public with imaginary landscapes sown with abandonment, destruction, and disorder through an expressive minimalist and povera language charged with poetic values and melancholy.
