Alexis Lago (b. in Havana, Cuba, in 1962) Alexis Lago graduated from the University of Havana in biochemistry and went on to study painting at the San Alejandro Academy of Art. Illustrator for Mi isla y yo / My Island and I, he is an artist whose colorful renderings exemplify the Greater and Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean, which he paints with his artist wife María Sánchez. Originally from Cuba, they live in the United States. His work has been exhibited in personal and collective shows in Latin America, the United States and Europe. He is collected for both public and private collections in Germany, USA, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and Cuba. Alexis has illustrated children's books for publishers in Cuba, the United States, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. His other book illustration work with author Alfonso Silva Lee includes Mi mar y yo: El mundo azul de Puerto Rico.
