MoCA-Américas Attends the Launch of Evelyn Sosa’s No Place Is Far Away in Miami

By Rodriguez Collection Team

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, El Espacio 23 hosted the presentation of Ningún lugar está lejos (No Place Is Far Away) by Cuban photographer Evelyn Sosa. The event was structured as a public conversation with writer Legna Rodríguez Iglesias and took place in the morning as part of the venue’s regular public programming.

Published in 2026 by Rialta Ediciones as part of its FluXus series, the book presents a visual project centered on the objects carried by Cuban individuals throughout their migratory journeys. Through this framework, Sosa constructs a photographic archive that documents personal experiences of displacement, memory, and belonging, foregrounding the relationship between subjects and their material possessions.

The presentation unfolded as a dialogue between the artist and Rodríguez Iglesias, who also contributes an interview to the publication. The conversation addressed both the research and production processes behind the project and the symbolic dimension of the objects depicted, understood as repositories of memory within the contemporary experience of exile. The event reinforced the continuity between the publication and Sosa’s earlier exhibition of the same body of work in Miami in 2025.

The significance of the event lies in the consolidation of Ningún lugar está lejos as a project that has transitioned from the exhibition space to the editorial format while maintaining its focus on documenting the Cuban diaspora through an intimate and testimonial lens. The choice of El Espacio 23 as the venue situates the presentation within a broader institutional context, connected to the collection of Jorge M. Pérez and to Miami’s contemporary cultural landscape.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas was represented at the event by Leonardo Rodríguez, Director General, founder, and owner of the Rodríguez Collection, and by Ivonne Ferrer, Vice Director of the Center and Director of the Fine Arts Ceramic Center. Their presence reflects the institution’s ongoing engagement with editorial initiatives and contemporary artistic practices linked to the Cuban diaspora.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas reaffirms its commitment to supporting contemporary art and emerging artists, including Evelyn Sosa, whose work is part of both the museum’s holdings and the Rodríguez Collection. Through its programming and active participation in the cultural field, the institution continues to advance the visibility and dissemination of Cuban art in South Florida, across the United States, and internationally.
