The upcoming collaboration between the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas (MoCAA) and the Faculty of Architecture, Habitat and Design at UADY is beginning to take shape in Mérida with the preparation of a collective exhibition of Cuban art, scheduled to open in September 2026 as part of the professional exchange program developed in connection with the 53rd anniversary of this academic institution.

The exhibition, composed of works from MoCAA’s permanent collection, will be presented at the Museum of the City, one of Mérida’s most important cultural venues. The project reflects the shared interest of the participating institutions in promoting the circulation of collections, fostering dialogue among artistic communities, and strengthening professional ties between creators, curators, and cultural agents across the Latin American context.
As part of the preparations, Leonardo Rodríguez and Ivonne Ferrer, founder and director of MoCAA, respectively, traveled to the Yucatán capital to meet with the director of the Museum of the City, Lic. José Manuel Civeira, and its general coordinator, Lic. Esmé Ramírez. During the visit, they toured the spaces designated for the exhibition and reviewed, together with the museum’s directors, the technical conditions and resources required to carry out this important initiative.
Also participating in the visit were art critic, curator, and editor David Mateo; printmaker Enrique Miralles (Tente); photographer and painter Javier Barrera; and photographer Belkis Martín. The meeting made it possible to move forward on key organizational aspects and reinforced the collaborative nature of a project that will bring to Mérida a representative selection of contemporary Cuban art from MoCAA’s permanent collection.
