MoCAA Visits the Studio of Mexican Photographer and Painter Javier Barrera

By Rodriguez Collection Team

The Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas (MoCAA) continues to strengthen its collaborative ties with institutions and representative artists from Latin America. As part of its recent working agenda in Mérida, Leonardo Rodríguez, founder of the museum, and Ivonne Ferrer, artist and director of the Florida-based institution, visited the studio of Mexican photographer and painter Javier Barrera.

During the meeting, Barrera presented a selection of photographs and paintings representative of his artistic trajectory, as well as several works currently in development. The visit also fostered a fruitful exchange on Mérida’s artistic landscape and on possible initiatives of collaboration, promotion, and institutional recognition that MoCAA could help advance within that context.

The meeting also opened a space for reflection on the expectations and ideas currently surrounding Yucatán’s cultural scene, particularly in light of the first International Biennial of Visual Arts, scheduled for November 2026.
