As part of the visit, the delegation was welcomed by Auriel Lemos Nazaré, the great-great-grandson of the founder of one of Maragogipinho’s most emblematic pottery families. Located in the state of Bahia, Maragogipinho is recognized as the largest center of artisanal ceramic production in Latin America and the custodian of a pottery tradition spanning more than 300 years. At the Olaria Família Nazaré Open-Air Museum, Auriel shared the legacy of several generations of ceramicists who have preserved and enriched this invaluable cultural heritage, keeping alive techniques and knowledge passed down from one generation to the next.

This meeting reaffirms the commitment of MoCAA and the Fine Art Ceramic Center to building bridges between artistic communities, fostering the exchange of knowledge, and preserving traditions that continue to inspire contemporary creation. The partnerships now beginning to take shape will lead to joint projects including artist residency programs, workshops, exhibitions, and educational initiatives. These efforts will strengthen cultural dialogue among Brazil, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States, while promoting a meaningful exchange between ceramic tradition and contemporary artistic practices.
