As part of the program of activities carried out by MoCAA directors Leonardo Rodríguez and Ivonne Ferrer during the month of September in Mérida, following their official invitation from the Faculty of Architecture, Habitat, Art and Design at UADY, the schedule included visits to a representative group of artists’ studios, among them the one currently occupied by young Cuban artist Ernesto García Sánchez.

Leonardo and Ivonne, accompanied by David Mateo, MoCAA’s representative in Mexico, expressed an interest in viewing some of the artist’s most recent works, as well as learning more about the concepts and technical processes that inform his approach to abstract painting. Ernesto also spoke about the exhibition projects he has developed in recent years, his experience working with galleries in the United States and Mexico, and the future projects he has undertaken.
Ernesto García Sánchez (Havana, Cuba, 1989) is a visual artist whose practice encompasses painting, sculpture, and experimentation with various media and techniques. He graduated from the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts in 2009 and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) in 2015. His artistic research focuses on geometry, fractal objects, and formal synthesis. His visual language is characterized by the reduction of forms, the fragmentation and multiplication of geometric structures, and the combination of materials and textures in abstract, minimalist compositions.
