The Museum MoCA Americas inaugurated its cultural exchange program in Brazil with a meaningful visit to two emblematic spaces in Goiás City—a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled in the heart of the state of Goiás. The itinerary included the Casa-Museum Cora Coralina and the Casa Milena Curado, both landmarks where art, memory, and social transformation converge.
The first stop took place at the Casa-Museum Cora Coralina, the former residence of Brazil’s beloved poet, now preserved as a living archive of her spirit—an intimate space that continues to inspire generations of artists and writers. There, MoCA Americas representatives were welcomed by local cultural authorities for a dialogue centered on expanding cultural and educational cooperation between Miami and Goiás City, with the aim of fostering projects that unite contemporary art, heritage, and community engagement.
The delegation later visited the Casa Milena Curado, a vibrant creative center founded by artist and embroiderer Milena Curado, whose social initiative offers a path of reintegration for individuals formerly incarcerated within Goiás’s penitentiary system. Since 2008—an endeavor recognized by BBC Brasil—her project has involved inmates in the artisanal production of handmade garments, bags, and embroidered textiles, weaving together craft, dignity, and redemption.
The visit of MoCA Americas to the Casa Milena Curado underscored the power of art as a vehicle for inclusion and transformation, complementing the poetic and spiritual resonance that inhabits Cora Coralina’s historic home.
This journey through Goiás City—an architectural and cultural jewel of Brazil—marks the beginning of a binational agenda of collaboration, through which MoCA Americas reaffirms its commitment to building bridges between creative communities and nurturing an enduring dialogue among art, history, and society.
