Planting Seeds of the Future at MoCAA: Kingdom Academy Students Visit Winter Selection

By Rodríguez Collection Team

As part of the Art in the Community program, the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas (MoCAA) once again welcomed students from Kingdom Academy for a day that intertwined art, learning, and community engagement. During the visit, Leonardo Rodríguez, the museum’s director, moved among the children, encouraging them to look closely, imagine freely, and create—reminding them that some may one day become the artists of tomorrow.

Surrounded by the works featured in Winter Selection, the young visitors paused before paintings by some of the great masters of Cuban visual art. Each student chose the piece that spoke most deeply to them and set out to create their own version—not by imitation, but through interpretation—discovering in the process their own visual language and a personal dialogue with art.

Their teacher explained that this year, sixth- and seventh-grade students have begun a new initiative to connect with the broader community, visiting businesses and institutions that introduce them to diverse fields—from science and culture to entrepreneurship.

The encounter reaffirmed the shared vision of MoCAA and Kingdom Academy: to nurture thoughtful, creative young people who understand art as a form of knowledge and transformation. Through his presence and words, Leonardo Rodríguez reminded everyone that every museum is also a classroom—and that within every child lies the promise of a brighter future.
