As part of the program of activities accompanying the opening of her solo exhibition in Mérida, "Geometrías Habitadas. Cuerpo, espacio y arquitectura en la obra de Ivonne Ferrer," the Cuban artist, who has lived in Florida for many years, held an exchange with students and professors from the UADY Facultad de Arquitectura, Hábitat, Arte y Diseño.
During the meeting, Ivonne Ferrer gave a brief overview of her training and career as a visual artist. She discussed the main motifs that have driven her creative process over all these years, both conceptually and in terms of representation, and highlighted the aspects that can connect the current foundations of her work, particularly the nine pieces selected for the exhibition, with a viewer as unique as one coming from a university campus devoted to architecture and art.
David Mateo, curator of the exhibition, joined the artist in the conversation and focused his talk on the discursive and formal elements that shaped the curatorial proposal, conceived by Ivonne specifically for the academic space. He also offered a detailed reflection on the place that, in his view, Ivonne Ferrer's work holds today in the history of Cuban visual arts and in the Latin American art world.
"Geometrías Habitadas. Cuerpo, espacio y arquitectura en la obra de Ivonne Ferrer" is one of the two curatorial projects presented by the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas as part of the tributes marking the 53rd anniversary of the founding of the UADY Facultad de Arquitectura, Hábitat, Arte y Diseño and the 20th anniversary of its art program. The other exhibition, in which Ivonne Ferrer takes part as coordinator and with one installation piece and two prints, will be shown between September and October 2026 at the Museo de la Ciudad de Mérida under the title Colección MoCAA en Yucatán.
