Leonardo Rodríguez, founder and general director of MoCAA; Ivonne Ferrer, director of MoCAA; and David Mateo, MoCAA representative in Mérida, held a meeting with professors and students from the UADY Facultad de Arquitectura, Hábitat, Arte y Diseño. Architect David Reynaldo Alcocer, director of the academic institution, served as presenter and moderator of the panel.
The purpose of the meeting was to give attendees an overview of MoCAA's history and projects; the collecting strategy it has developed over time around Cuban and Latin American art, which today forms the core holdings of this Florida institution; and the actions the Museum is taking to strengthen its ties with the international art circuit, especially in Latin America.
David Reynaldo Alcocer thanked MoCAA's leadership for taking part in the program celebrating the 53rd anniversary of the Facultad de Arquitectura, Hábitat, Arte y Diseño and the 20th anniversary of the creation of its Visual Arts program. He also highlighted the two exhibitions organized and presented in Mérida, and expressed the university's commitment to launching a plan of action that fosters a permanent working relationship between the Florida museum and UADY. This would cover specific areas such as information and outreach, educational workshops, the promotion of emerging artists, research into local production processes, and connections with peer institutions, fairs and biennials of regional importance.
MoCAA's presentation to the students and faculty turned into a lively and engaging dialogue between both sides. Opinions were exchanged, questions were raised, suggestions were made, and together they explored the most promising areas where these exchanges could be mutually beneficial. David Reynaldo Alcocer publicly announced the willingness of the UADY Facultad de Arquitectura, Hábitat, Arte y Diseño to sign a letter of intent to help bring these exchanges to fruition.
