Leonardo Rodríguez and Ivonne Ferrer, directors of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas (MoCAA), and David Reynaldo Alcocer, director of the Facultad de Arquitectura, Hábitat, Arte y Diseño of the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY), signed a letter of intent with the goal of advancing a collaboration agreement between both institutions.
The letter outlines, on a preliminary basis, the areas in which this collaborative initiative can begin to develop, such as educational cooperation, art research and outreach, library services, connections among professors, undergraduate and graduate students, and joint studies across multiple fields of research.
It is worth highlighting that, for Florida's community of visual artists, this would mean expanding their opportunities for promotion and dialogue with Mexico's intellectual and academic world, while for Mérida, it would bring new perspectives, artists, collections and methodologies into its institutional circuit. Through this reciprocity, an exchange platform could gradually take shape, one capable of inspiring new readings of contemporary art from the Americas and strengthening the cultural ties between their communities.
Leonardo Rodríguez and Ivonne Ferrer have also decided to establish a MoCAA representation in Mérida, to be led by Cuban curator and art critic David Mateo, who currently lives in that city. In addition, one of their core goals is to establish a permanent working headquarters there, with the support and approval of the leadership of the UADY Facultad de Arquitectura, Hábitat, Arte y Diseño.
