The Centro de Arte Tomás y Valiente (CEART) recently hosted a visit from a delegation of MoCA-Américas, led by Leonardo Rodríguez, Founder and Director General, together with Ivonne Ferrer, Deputy Director of the institution and Director of the Fine Arts Ceramic Center. The delegation was received in Fuenlabrada by Juan Carlos Moya Zafra, who has overseen the CEART since its inauguration in 2005.
The visit functioned as an initial working encounter aimed at identifying shared lines of collaboration between both institutions, with particular attention to artist exchange frameworks and the development of joint projects with an international scope. During a guided tour of the exhibition spaces, the MoCA-Américas delegation engaged directly with the CEART’s curatorial structure, defined by its integration of contemporary practices, public mediation, and sustained engagement with its local context.
A central moment of the visit was the exchange with Moya Zafra, whose long-standing leadership has positioned the CEART as a consistent cultural platform within the broader ecosystem of southern Madrid. Within this dialogue, both parties underscored the relevance of strengthening institutional networks capable of articulating artistic practices across geographies, particularly in relation to the Latin American diaspora and its expanding presence in European contexts.
As an outcome of this encounter, the possibility of future joint initiatives was outlined, including potential collaborations connected to the Bienal de Cuenca. Such a framework would allow for the co-presentation of artists and curatorial proposals, reinforcing a shared commitment to international cultural exchange.
This visit aligns with MoCA Américas’ ongoing strategy to expand its global network through alliances with institutions that, like the CEART, have developed sustained programming from positions outside dominant cultural centers. The meeting signals the beginning of a dialogue that is expected to translate into concrete collaborative projects in the near future.
