Cuban artist Marcos Castillo welcomed to his studio in Mérida the visit of Leonardo Rodríguez, general director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas (MoCAA); Ivonne Ferrer, artist and deputy director of the Florida institution; and David Mateo, art critic and curator, who has recently been appointed representative of MoCAA in Mexico.

During the meeting, Marcos Castillo showed a significant body of works produced in recent years, made in media and formats such as sculpture and installation. He also spoke with the guests about his work experience in Mérida and his ties with the local art scene. For their part, Leonardo Rodríguez and Ivonne Ferrer informed the artist about the collaborative projects they are currently developing with the cultural sector and the field of university education. They also shared with him the future plans for collaboration between MoCAA and the School of Architecture, Habitat, Art and Design, as well as the possibilities of involving in this program of actions both the community of Cuban artists of the diaspora and the local artists themselves.

Marcos Castillo is a visual artist whose career has been marked by a sustained inquiry into the links between art, politics, society and contemporary culture. His artistic practice, recognized especially for his participation in the collective Los Carpinteros, has been distinguished by its ability to transform objects, structures and situations of everyday life into devices for critical reflection, in which irony, the absurd and the exploration of the contradictions of the social environment converge. His poetics goes beyond the conventional limits of sculpture, installation and drawing.
